PPM Drivers Deliver at Lamborghini Super Trofeo debut at Mid-Ohio
China Grove, N.C. (May 8, 2018) – Precision Performance Motorsports’ (PPM) debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo event at Mid-Ohio resulted in the six drivers of the PPM Huracán Super Trofeo Evo’s taking second overall, and a victory and a second place in class in the first race. The team followed up with two second place finishes and a fourth in class in race two.
The first and second race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American series for 2018 were closely contested at the 12-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The weekend races marked the beginning of the sixth edition of the Lamborghini one-make series in North American and the start of the 10th season worldwide of the series.
In race one a total of 17 of the new Huracán Super Trofeo Evo’s took the green flag. After Shinya Michimi finished a strong stint, Brandon Gdovic drove the No. 46 PPM, Lamborghini Palm Beach entry to a second-place charging from fourth to second overall on the last lap while teammates Dylan Murcott and Patrick Liddy earned the Pro-Am victory in their first effort in this type of racecar and at this circuit. Shea Holbrook and Martin Barkey gave the team another second-place finish in the Am class, both drivers enjoying success in their first race in the Huracán in a large field of experienced competitors.
In race two, Shinya Michimi and Brandon Gdovic drove the No. 46 PPM, to a second place finish in the Pro class. Murcott and Liddy finished second in the Pro-Am class, and Holbrook and Barkey brought home a fourth place finish in the Am class, with a podium just a few laps out of reach.
These results culminate in PPM standing second in the Super Trofeo Championship Team points.
Team owner Rick Gdovic was pleased with his team’s performance in the opening rounds of the 2018 season. “It was a great debut for the PPM team!” Gdovic said. “This is our first Super Trofeo event and the team, led by our amazing Team Manager Sunny Voelker, delivered an impressive performance. I also want to recognize our shop crew: Chris Bohlman, Mike Dayton, Bruce Kimmel, and Brandon Gdovic who worked long hours preparing the race cars. Our track crew, Trevor McClure, Tom Bobbitt, Steve Tognoli, David Sowers, Nico Morris, and Kelly Gdovic all did a great job at their first event together. While the results were good, the team will continue to ramp up its efforts to improve performance.”
The team will be in action again at the famed Watkins Glen International June 29 to July 1.
DRIVERS’ QUOTES
Brandon Gdovic (Race 1: 2nd Pro, Race 2: 2nd Pro): “Awesome weekend at Mid-Ohio with the Precision Performance Motorsports team for our debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series! Podiums by all 3 cars is an amazing result. All of our drivers had awesome drives this weekend along with Showtime Shinya Michimi and me taking 2nd and 3rd overall. I’m looking forward to taking what we’ve learned to Watkins Glen for rounds 3 and 4 of the season.”
Shinya Michimi (Race 1: 2nd Pro, Race 2: 2nd Pro): “Definitely a very strong opening weekend from everyone at Precision Performance Motorsports. We had a really strong car in both races and Brandon and I both delivered some great speed and overtakes to secure second place finishes in both rounds, despite starting mid pack and this being a very strong Pro Class field in Super Trofeo North America. It feels really nice to have been able to do well in my home state, especially after having been out of a race car for a while and this being my first time at Mid-Ohio. Big thank you to Precision Performance Motorsports for this awesome opportunity and a big thank you to my sponsors Arai Helmets and Oktane Visual.”
Dylan Murcott (Race 1: 1st Pro-Am, Race 2: 2nd Pro-Am): “The overall weekend went very well. The team did great job setting up the car for the races. It was awesome to win the first race together with Patrick in Pro-Am and just missing the overall podium, and to get a second in race two. We have a slight points lead after the first weekend, so hopefully we can be back at the Glen in a few weeks. Huge thanks to the entire PPM team, my teammate Patrick, and Eric from P1 Group that made this weekend possible.”
Patrick Liddy (Race 1: 1st Pro-Am, Race 2: 2nd Pro-Am): “I’d like to thank the whole team at Precision Performance Motorsports for putting together such a great debut. Dylan and I drove well together and came away with a class win and a second in class. I am looking forward to putting on another great showing with the team at Watkins Glen.”
Shea Holbrook (Race 1: 2nd Am, Race 2: 4th Am): “We went into this season full steam ahead and it happened quickly. We have goals over the course of the season we want met and I’m confident we can meet those based on our performances especially after last weekend! Coming home with some hardware taking P2 and P4 first weekend out we’re
certainly happy about! I’m hugely grateful for the support of all parties involved: BUBBA burger, Lucas Oil and CoolShirt Systems I’m forever humbled by Martin Barkey my co-driver who has blown me away, Stephen and the entire PPM team delivered us a car we can win in. We still have more to learn and improve on but, I’m super pumped on how we rolled out for the season opener. Onward to Watkins Glen!”
Martin Barkey (Race 1: 2nd Am, Race 2: 4th Am): “Racing the Super Trofeo Lamborghini at Mid-Ohio this past weekend was nothing short of amazing. The car is a monster, it does everything so well. PPM prepped a great car and provided support necessary to claim a P2 finish in race one. Racing with my teammate Shea Holbrook was so fun, she not only has a great competitive attitude but she can wheel a car like there’s no tomorrow. It’s going to be a fun year…. can’t wait for Watkins Glen.”
