Anthony Kumpen Finishes 24th in Second NASCAR XFINITY Series Start
2014 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Champion Anthony Kumpen joined Precision Performance Motorsports this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway to compete in the DAV 200. Kumpen, a racing veteran but newcomer to the NASCAR XFINITY Series finished Friday’s two practice sessions in 24th and 23rd positions respectively out of 42 cars, and qualified in to the 200-lap race Saturday in the 33rd position.
After the green flag flew, Kumpen wasted no time gaining position. By Lap 15, the Belgium-native had broken into the Top 25. Kumpen was quiet on the radio for most of the afternoon, studying his competitors and gaining confidence in his oval racing ability with each lap. On Lap 125, Kumpen posted his fastest lap of the race, rivaling many of the experienced XFINITY Series drivers.
Kumpen held steady and avoided major incident throughout the afternoon to finish in the 24th position.
Anthony Kumpen Quote:
The first part of the race was really good. The whole run was going well and I was catching the cars in front of me. The car got a bit tight after the first pit stop. I’m not sure whether I used the front tires too much or what exactly happened. The same scenario happened on my third run. Regardless, I think we had a solid day. The team did a great job, the car was good throughout the race, and I learned a lot. So I’m happy to have finished the race and I look forward to next week.
